Wexford and District Womens and Schoolgirls League 02-10-2011
Under Twelve Premier
The inclement weather did little to deter the teams in the top division of the Under Twelve girls league with all three scheduled games going ahead. Two of the divisions favourites met in Curracloe when the home side took on Bree United with Elaine O Connell-Sullivan scoring the only goal of the game to give the home team a one nil win. Shelbourne were much more comfortable as they accounted for Glen Celtic on a six nil scoreline. Katie Murphy scored a hat trick with Eva Boland adding two goals and Eimear Mernagh also finding the net. Newly promoted Killenagh Wanderers started life in the top division with a high scoring six three victory over Campile United. Sarah Whelan scored twice for Wanderers with Ciara Doyle, Danielle Hanney, Alyson McPartland and Sophie Kelly also on target while Elena Kenny scored twice for Campile with Michelle Kinsella adding one
Under Twelve Division One
The only game to survive Saturday in division one saw Charlotte Stammers score an injury time goal to give Ferns United a two one win over Moyne Rangers. Earlier Nicola Ryan had given Ferns the lead while Anais Curran levelled for Rangers in a very closely contested encounter. On Sunday Fastnet Rovers and North End played their refixed tie with Rovers coming out on top by a five one scoreline. Alana Anglim scored the Wexford town side but two goals each from Rachel Bennett and Anne Marie Bennett and one from Shona O Connor have Rovers a winning start to their league campaign
Under Twelve Division Two A
All Blacks travelled to Courtown and ran out comfortable winners as they knocked in eight without reply while Gorey Celtic and St Leonards played out a tight scoreless draw
Under Twelve Division Three
Rathnure United opened their campaign in this age group with a five two win over Wexford Celtic. Two goals from Aisling Breen as well as a hat trick from Nora Higgins gave the home side the three points
Under Sixteen Premier Division
The two games fixed in the premier under sixteen division went ahead as planned and both ended in draws. Shelbourne and St Josephs braved the elements with Megan Whitty scoring for Shelbourne and Diane Kehoe replying for Joeys while Ferns and Curracloe also shared the points in their afternoon kick off. After a scoreless first half, Rita Davitt opened the scoring for Ferns but an Amy Banville goal for Curracloe with both sides cancelling each other out
Under Sixteen Division One
In the one game that survived the weather in this division Forth Celtic proved too strong for Bree United, running out six nil winners. A hat trick from Ciara Rossiter helped them along the way while Rachel Cantwell scored twice and Aisling Mcauliffe added one
Under Sixteen Division Two
Ballindaggin came out on top in a four three thriller at home to Taghmon in a very closely contested match that could have went either way. The home side went three nil up but Taghmon never gave up and kept coming back and were unfortunate not to leave with at least a point. Shannon Casey, Sinead Doyle, Eimear Redmond and Emma Fitzhenry all scored for Ballindaggin while Sarah Banville scored a hat trick for Taghmon. Tombrack were too strong for All Blacks and ran out six nil winners thanks to a hat trick from Claire O Rourke, two goals from Hayley Browne and one from Georgina Creane. Corach Ramblers travelled to Rosslare Rangers and won four nil thanks to goals from Nicole Culleton, Eilish Cullen, Mairead Moran and Shauna Breen
Womens Premier Division
Adamstown 7 Killenagh Wan 0
The home side recovered from their opening day defeat in Tramore and proved too strong for Killenagh, running out seven nil winners. Chantelle Martin scored a hat trick with Katie White, Anne Marie Dunphy, Roisin Barden and Niamh Kelly all adding one each
St Cormacs 2 Ferns United 1
Ferns fell to their second defeat of the season when travelling to Boolavogue and going down two one to St Cormacs. Goals from Bernadette Carton and Bernie McCarthy had the home side two nil ahead but Ferns were given a lifeline when a St Cormacs defender deflected a Liz Everedd corner into her net just before half time. Both teams created several chances in the second half but no further goals saw the Boolavogue girls pick up their second win of the season
Benfica 1 Curracloe United 2
Both these sides have been decimated by players moving to the newly formed National League side so this game was watched with interest as both sides fielded relatively young squads. It was the visitors who came out on top, winning two one in a very entertaining match with Alecia Lasere scoring for Benfica but goals from Clara Donnelly and Julie Coakley gave the Seasiders victory and a very important three points
Womens Division One A
Shelbourne 5 North End United 2
After leaving the game behind them in Enniscorthy last Sunday, Shelbourne were in no mood for mistakes in this game against North End and led five nil at half time with Charlotte o Keefe scoring all five. North End put in a much better second half performance and pulled two back but despite being reduced to ten players after a sending off, the home side remained well in control. The North End goals were scored by Martina Pender and Saoirse Dempsey
Forth Celtic 1 St Josephs 4
Tara Kehoe scored for the home side but it was not enough against a St Josephs side who responded with goals from Aine Royce, Megan O Reilly, Louise Hammell and Lisa Johnson to win four one and take the points
Coolgreaney Celtic 1 Enniscorthy Town 3
These two experienced sides produced a very exciting game but it was Enniscorthy Town who came out on top. Mary Hempenstall scored for Celtic but two goals for Lorna Murphy and one from Fiona Dunne gave Town a win that moves them top of the table
Womens Division One B
Wexford Celtic 5 Tombrack United 0
Celtic were always in control in this match as Tombrack never lived up to last weeks performance and were well beaten five nil by the home side. Two goals from Natasha Walsh and one each from Jenna Murphy, Shirley Roche and Sarah Beaver saw Wexford Celtic take all three points
Corach Ramblers 1 Glen Celtic 2
Glen Celtic opened their campaign for the season with a hard earned two one win away to Corach Ramblers. Laura Dagger and Ann Reck were on target for Celtic who did enough to take all three points
Arklow United 1 Courtown Hibs 1
These two sides played out a very competitive one all draw with both sides creating several chances but defences dominated. Lisa Cunningham scored for the home side but Michelle Kehoe levelled for Hibs as both sides had to settle for a point each
Womens Division Two A
Rosslare Rangers 1 New Ross Town 1
Both these sides had to settle for a share of the points in a closely contested one all draw. Roberta Stafford scored for Rangers with Ann Carroll on target for Town
New Ross Celtic 1 Fastnet Rovers 2
This match produced an unusual scenario where two brothers were in charge of the two sides as Robbie Bennett managed Celtic and his brother Michael was in charge of Rovers. It was the latter who claimed the bragging rights as Fastnet triumphed two one thanks to goals from Laura Breen and Anne Breen while Denise O Leary scored for Celtic
Castledockrell United 1 All Blacks 2
All Blacks made the journey to Castledockrell a worthwhile one as they picked up all three points in a two one win. Laura Brennan was on target for the home side but goals from Roisin Fortune and Roisin Murphy gave the visitors victory
Womens Division Two B
Crossabeg 0 Campile United 6
Campile proved too strong for new club Crossabeg and ran out six nil winners
Cloughbawn 2 Moyne Rangers 1
Cloughbawn collected their first three points of the season with a two one win over Moyne Rangers
Camolin Celtic 9 Bree United 1
Megan Murray was on fire in this match as she scored six of her sides total with Ciara Corrigan scoring two and Niamh O Leary adding one. A young Bree side were no match for the home side who were always in control and their cause was not helped when one of their players got injured and had to be removed hospital, all involved wish her a speedy recovery
FAI Under Twelve National Finals
Kilmore United were the leagues only representatives in the National finals of the Under Twelve competition and came through a very tough group to quaify for the quarter finals. They opened with a one nil win over Oranmore with Cora Miller scoring the goal and followed this up with a scoreless draw against group favourites Illies Celtic from Donegal. A Rebecca Furlong goal ensured a place in the last eight when she scored the only goal of the match against Kilcoran from Limerick. A tough quarter final against Gurteen Celtic followed and the game could have went either way but it was the Sligo side who got the break and went through one nil. They went on to reach the final where they were beaten by a very good Shelbourne from Dublin, a side who Kilmore had drawn with in last weekends Leinster qualifiers, a testament to how close it was between all teams involved. As well as Cora and Rebecca, Emily Bates and Grace Barry put in fantastic displays in midfield and are definitely two players to watch for the future. Well done to Kilmore United on reaching the quarter finals of the competition and ensuring that the rapidly growing reputation of the league continues to shine on the National stage
