Wexford and District Womens and Schoolgirls League 26-05-2013

Under Twelve Cup Final
Curracloe United        1          Ballindaggin AFC       0
These two sides played out a thrilling Under Twelve cup final in Castlebridge on Tuesday evening and just when the game looked to be heading to extra time, Curracloe scored with a minute remaining to lift the cup for the second time in their history. In a closely contested game where both sides created chances, defences dominated and kept the forwards at bay until Ailis Neville scored near the end. Player of the match Nicola Ryan almost grabbed a late equaliser for Ballindaggin but Curracloe held firm and were presented with the cup by league secretary Martin Cahill

Under Sixteen Premier Division Play Off
Curracloe United        0          Killenagh Wanderers  0          AET
(Killenagh won 5-4 on penalties)
After a long scoreless battle on Thursday evening, Killenagh Wanderers eventually wrapped up the premier title and completed the league and cup double when overcoming rivals Curracloe on penalties. These two sides met the previous week in the final match of the league and also played out a scoreless draw so it showed just how evenly matched they are, that the drew once again in this play off before going to extra time and then penalties to decide a winner. This game was a typical play off with little between them and chances at a minimum as they cancelled each other out but it was Killenagh who held their nerve in the shoot out to lift the league title. League committee member Tom “Flash” Dunne was on hand to present the winning side with the league trophy and bringing the season to an end.

Wexford and District Womens and Schoolgirls League 19-05-2013

Under Ten Division Two B
Adamstown    10        Enniscorthy Town       2
Five goals each from Maebh Wickham and Isobelle Herbert gave Adamstown a ten two victory over divisional runners up Enniscorthy Town. This victory sees the home side finish comfortably in mid table

Under Twelve Premier Division
Curracloe United        5          Fastnet Rovers            1
Curracloe wrapped up second place in the premier division with this win over Fastnet on Saturday morning. Nadine Cunningham was on target for Rovers but two goals from Sarah Siggins and one each from Sarah Whelan, Kyra Lacey O Connor and Gemma Corrigan gave the home side all three points

Under Fourteen Cup Final
Ballindaggin    0          Curracloe United        1
Division One side Ballindaggin gave premier champions Curracloe a few scares in the under fourteen cup final on Tuesday evening before the premier side eventually did enough to lift the cup for the second year in a row. In a closely fought encounter, both sides produced some entertaining football but it was the premier champions who used their experience to eventually do enough to win the game. Siobhan Doolan scored the only goal of the game after a sustained period of pressure from her side and despite pressing for an equaliser, Ballindaggin were unable to break down a resolute defence as Curracloe held on to lift the cup. Aine Murphy of Ballindaggin picked up a well deserved player of the match award after an excellent performance in the centre of the defence

Under Fourteen Division One
Seaview United          1          Bunclody AFC           1
Bunclody missed out on a chance to go to a play off for second place after this one all draw in Mersheen. After a scoreless first half, Hayley Drought put the home side ahead and it was injury time before the visitors levelled through Amy Coleman to secure a point which was not enough to force a play off with Ballindaggin for runners up spot

Under Fourteen Division Two A
Gorey Celtic    0          Campile United           4
Campile travelled to Gorey Celtic on Thursday evening and four goals from Eva Boland gave them the three points needed to set up a winner takes all decider with Bridge Rovers. After an evenly contested first half, Campile got on top in the second half to secure all three points

Bridge Rovers 3          Campile United           5
Described by all present as the “match of the season”, these two teams served up a thriller with Campile eventually doing enough to take all three points and leapfrog their opponents to take the league title. With both sides going for the title, an exciting game was always on the cards and that was what both sides produced and it was unfortunate there had to be a loser in such a thriling contest. Sinead Ronan John, Jamie Devereux and Chloe Mythen were all on target for the home side but two goals each from Eva Boland and Chloe Banville and one from Tasmin Baker saw Campile clinch the league title. League vice chairman Barry Dempsey was on hand to present the league trophy to the delighted winning captain but both sides can be very proud of the part they played in such an exciting finish to the division

Under Sixteen Premier Division
St Leonards     1          Forth Celtic     1
A one all draw saw these two sides finish mid table and retain their premier status for next season. Helena Astley was on target for St Leonards and Chloe Fox scored for Celtic in a very entertaining game

League Players of the Year and Top Scorers announced
Liz Everedd from Ferns United has came out on top as Premier top scorer for the seventh time as her impressive tally saw her leave her closest rivals well behind with Vanessa Ogbonna from Tramore her closest contender. North Ends Leanne O Reilly took the scoring honours in Division One A finishing just ahead of Kilmore Uniteds Katrina Parrock while Kellie Keating of New Ross Town just pipped Corach Ramblers Ciara Roche for top scorer in Division One B. Division Two A champions All Blacks supplied the top scorer in that division with Roisin Furlong coming out on top just ahead of Shannon O Brien of Rosslare Rangers while Caitriona Murray of Castledockerell was runaway winner in Division Two B with Megan Murray of Camolin Celtic her only serious challenger
A closely contested vote for Premier player of the year saw Adamstowns Danielle Martin follow in the footsteps of her sister Chantelle, who won the award last year, and pip Tramores Vanessa Ogbonna and Benficas Becky Conroy for this years award. Division One A was won by Kilmore Uniteds Katrina Parrock, just pipping Tracey Byrne from Killenagh for the award while Lisa Johnston from St Josephs was a comfortable winner of Division One B. Aoife Morrissey of Taghmon was a runaway winner in Division Two A while Caitriona Murray made it a double in Division Two B when adding the player of the year to her top scorer award.
All the winners will be presented with their awards at a function in the Riverbank House Hotel on Friday June 21st when Wexford Youths Women will also be presented with their club awards on the same night

Wexford Youths Women enjoy success at League awards
Our National League squads succesful season was recognised when the team of the season was announced last week with three players named on the eleven, Goalkeeper Mary Rose Kelly rounded off a great season by being named as the leagues best keeper while Lauren Dwyer was honoured at centre back while Rianna Jarrett rounded off the season being named as a forward. Lauren and Rianna had already picked up player of the month awards during the season while Mary Rose had impressed all year as Wexford Youth Women made a serious push for league honours. Better known for her exploits with the Wexford Senior Football team, Mary Rose has won a GAA all star in the past but her achievement in making such an impact in womens national league must equal that as she only signed for the club at the start of this season. Although she barely turned sixteen in time to sign for the club this season, Lauren has made an immediate impact in the league and despite her young age she has become a vital part of the starting eleven and has a massive future as a player within the league and internationally. Rianna was nominated for Young player of the year as well as Senior player of the year and she was successful as she was named as young player of the year in a season that also saw her finish fourth highest top scorer in the league, and would have finished higher only for her serious injury near the end of the season. All three were presented with their awards at a dinner in the Aviva Stadium last Tuesday where Rianna also received her young player of the year award.
