Shamrock Rovers        0          Wexford Youth Women         0

Despite dominating long periods of the game, Wexford Youth Women were unable to make the breakthrough that would have given them their first win of the season. An estimated crowd of 150 watched these two sides in the fine surroundings of Tallaght Stadium on Sunday afternoon and they were treated to a game of several chances, some minor controversy, but no goals. Wexford started the best with Maria Delahunty and Fiona Bennett linking up well to bring a fine save from Rovers keeper Sarah Devlin. She followed this up with another fine save when Bennett was put through by Kylie Murphy but the keeper stayed on her feet to deny the Wexford player her goal. Rovers did come forward but found the visitors defence of Trish Cleary, Jessica Gleeson, Clare Conlon and Linda Douglas difficult to break down. Maria Delahunty continued to cause problems for the Rovers left back as she sent in a succession of crosses, one of which Tara Moloney was unlucky not to get a strong header on target. The home side were forced into a change with ten minutes to half time when Zara Dillon picked up a knock and had to be replaced by Bethany Houldsworth and minutes later Aleisha Cullen made her debut when coming on for the hard working Tara Moloney. Half time arrived with no goals and it was Rovers who started the second half best and Wexford keeper Charlotte McCormack had to make a double save after just two minutes to deny Ashling Cusack before Kylie Murphy cleared to safety. Rovers were reduced to ten players on the hour when Carol Conlon was sent off for lashing out at Fiona Bennett after both players had clashed after a biting tackle. At this point the game became scrappy with neither side getting on top although Wexford enjoyed the better chances with Fiona Bennett, Ciara O Brien and Rianna Jarrett all going close with the latter enjoying the best chance when she tried to round Devlin but the keeper saved well. Keeley Clayden and Rachel Hutchinson came on for Bennett and Jarrett but at this point both teams seemed to have settled for a draw and Claydens late shot into the side netting was the closest either side went to breaking the deadlock. Goalie Sarah Devlin was outstanding for Rovers with Niamh Nolan and Orlagh Nolan putting in fine performances while Wexford Women had a top class performance from Linda Douglas while Kylie Murphy and Jessica Gleeson also performed well
