Bus Eireann Womens National League

Peamount United        7          Wexford Youths Women       0

After last weeks heroics in Ferrycarrig Park when Wexford came from behind to snatch a point against Castlebar, they were shown the level of football needed to win the league when being well beaten by league favourites Peamount United. Wexford started this game well and for the opening exchanges, they looked comfortable on the ball and although not creating anything concrete, they did make the home side defence work. However, on nine minutes, disaster struck when on their first attack, Louise Quinn crossed the ball for Aine O Gorman to volley to the bottom corner of the net and Peamount were one up. Four minutes later, things got worse when Nikki Dunphy just caught Aine O Gorman on the ankles as she broke through and as well as awarding the penalty, the referee also harshly dismissed the Wexford defender, brandishing a straight red card. Aine O Gorman dispatched the resultant penalty to double Peamounts advantage after just thirteen minutes. To their credit, Wexford did not roll over and continued to make the home side work hard as well as creating some chances themselves with Maria Delahunty going close just before half time. Peamount got the ideal start in the second half when another Irish international Stephanie Roche scored after just two minutes and followed this up with her second goal ten minutes later. Sara Lawlor, Grace Murray and Roche again, all scored despite the best efforts of the Wexford side who showed true grit and determination as the battled all the way to the finish. Charlotte McCormack in the Wexford goal was exceptional on the day as was Ciara O Brien and Celine Slye while Fiona Bennett worked tirelessly up front on her own. The star studded Peamount side had excellent performances from the dangerous Aine O Gorman, defender Stacey McGlone and hat trick heroine for the second week in a row Stephanie Roche. In the other matches in the league, Raheny United beat Cork one nil while Castlebar Celtic enjoyed a four nil win over Shamrock Rovers
