Top of the table clash for Ferrycarrig
Next Sunday will see the biggest game to date in the short history of Wexford Youth Women when second place raheny United come to Ferrycarrig Park to take on the league leaders in what promises to be a very important fixture for both sides. Wexford currently top the table, two points clear of Raheny and Peamount United and every game between now and the end of the season takes on a whole new level of importance.
Both sides will be well matched as all their games to date have been very close with very little to seperate the sides and when the sides met earlier in the season in Morton Stadium, the game ended in a draw. Of the three meetings between the two sides last season, two ended in draws with Raheny sneaking the other game three two so it is obvious both sides are well familiar with each other at this stage.
Wexford come into this game after a big six one win away to Castlebar two weeks ago on the same day that Raheny were overcoming title holders Peamount three two in a thrilling game in Greenogue. These three teams are currently way ahead of the other four in the league and there is no doubt that the league trophy will be one of their clubhouses come seasons end and even for the experts on womens soccer, it is still impossible to call. Wexford are on a ten match unbeaten run and are without the in form team but have the disadvantage of having played two more games than Raheny. Their opponents next Sunday recently saw their manager Ger McDermott leave to join St Patricks Athletic mens set up as a coach and new manager Sean Byrne has settled into the role well.
Wexford have a clean bill of health for next Sunday with all their usual starting eleven all fit so manager John Flood will have a full squad to pick from and will be hoping that his team can continue on their good run. Rianna Jarrett is currently the second highest scorer in the league and is linking up very well with strike partner Ashling Frawley while the Wexford defence has bult up a reputation for conceding very few goals with keeper Mary Rose Kelly improving with every game.
A good crowd is expected in Ferrycarrig for what promises to be a very closely contested match and no matter what the result, the attendance can be assured of a very good match.
