East End United 4 Benfica
LFC 2
After a rebuilding
season last year, East End are back stronger than ever this year and overcame
Benfica 4-2 in this opening Shield game. Kate Hurley and Leah O Donohue were
both on target for the visitors but goals from Lauren Valentine (2), Caoimhe
Shiel and Ria Lawson gave the Bennetsbridge girls victory

Group B
All Blacks 0 North
End United 2
North End are
returning to women’s soccer after a year’s absence and quickly got back to
winning ways with a 2-0 win away to All Blacks. Danielle Chin and Lauren Roche
were both on target for the Wexford town girls

Group D
Kilmore United 2 Bree
United 3
Bree travelled to
Kilmore and came out on top in a five goal thriller and have shown they will be
a force to be reckoned with in Division One this year. Goals from Amy Long (2)
and Mary O Gorman saw Bree eventually come out on top with Becky Furlong
scoring both goals for the home side

Tombrack United 5 St
Cormacs 0
After a scoreless
first half, Tombrack took control in the second half and ran out comfortable
5-0 winners over a battling St Cormacs side. Sharon Walsh (2), Kelli Maguire,
Sarah Merrigan and Mary Boland were all on target for the home side

St Leonards 5 Stoney
LFC 0
Fiona Ryan opened
her season with a hat trick in this Shield game as they ran out 5-0 winners
over Stoney. Aisling Murphy also found the net as did a Stoney defender who
deflected the ball into her own net
Fastnet Rovers 6 New
Ross Town 2
Rovers proved too
strong for a young Town side and ran out comfortable 6-2 winners. Jenny Delaney
and Sinead Ryan were on target for Town while goals from Joanne Jordan (2),
Kathlynn Gabbett, Lorraine Breen, Amy Cleary and Triona Kelly made up Rovers

Group C
Cushinstown AFC 0 Shelburne
FC 2
Shelburne made a
winning return to women’s soccer with a hard fought 2-0 win away to
Cushinstown. Kelly O Rourke scored both goals for the Ballywilliam girls and
get their season off to a winning start
Seaview United “B” 1 Cloughbawn
AFC 5
Cloughbawn continued
where they left off last season with a strong performance away to Seaview
United second team. Shannon Doyle scored for the home side but a Gina Foley hat
trick and goals from Kate Cullen and Tina Cullen gave the visitors victory

Group D
Ajax Athletic 1 Arklow
Town 6
Sophie Savage was on
target for the home side but a quick forward line gave their defence a torrid
time and Arklow made their debut at this level a winning one.
Bunclody AFC 3 Moyne
Rangers 2
This match between
two of the Shield favourites was probably the match of the day with both sides
bouncing back from poor seasons last year. Megan O Shea gave Moyne an early
lead before goals from Kate Hendrick, an own goal and Katlyn Murphy put
Bunclody 3-1 ahead. Siobhan Grant Moorehead did manage to pull one back for
Moyne but the home side held on for the three points

Group E
Rosslare Rangers 1 Bridge
Rovers 4
Bridge are a team
that could make an impact this season and showed their potential when they
travelled to Rosslare Rangers and came away 4-1 winners. Lauren Barry scored
for Rangers but goals from Deirdre Byrne (2), Hayley Lacey and Michelle Carr
gave the Castlebridge side victory
St Josephs 7 Wexford
Bohs 1
Aideen Byrne scored
a header for new club Wexford Bohs but it was not enough against a very strong
St Josephs side. Emer O Leary (2), Tracey McCormack (2), Michelle Gahan (2) and
Orry Murphy were all on target for the home side who could be serious
contenders this season if they can hold this squad together
