Ger Dunne Under Sixteen Cup Final

Curracloe United        1          Bree United     0

First division side Bree United put in a brave and spirited performance in this Ger Dunne Under Sixteen Cup final but at the end were unable to prevent Curracloe United from lifting their fourth cup in five years. Bree started well in the game and were unlucky not to take the lead in the opening minutes but after surviving that opening scare, Curracloe settled into the game and began to take control. However, the Bree defence worked hard at keeping them at bay but a speculative shot from Siobhan Doolan broke the deadlock midway through the first half to give Curracloe the lead. Bree came in search of an equaliser but were unable to break down the Seasiders defence with player of the match Niamh Bennett in particular, keeping them at bay. While Curracloe went into this game as hot favourites, they had to work very hard to get across the line and Bree can be very proud of their efforts and will probably even feel a little unfortunate that they did not at least get to extra time. However, any team that can win one of the league’s most competitive cups four years from five must be commended and they now head into their final league game against Killenagh knowing a draw will secure the league and cup double. The league would like to thank Bridge Rovers for the use of their pitch for this cup final

MMI.ie Wexford Womens Cup Final

Ferns United    1          Adamstown     0

A closely fought final saw Ferns United complete the league and cup double when they overcame Adamstown by a solitary goal to lift the cup for the fifth time in seven years. Of those five cup victories, few will have been as tough as this one as Adamstown, who have enjoyed a good season, battled hard to keep the high flying Ferns girls at bay. The unbeaten premier champions enjoyed the earlier possession in the game but found the Adamstown defence difficult to break down. Adamstown were always looking dangerous on the break but did not produce enough to trouble the Ferns keeper and then on thirty two minutes, the breakthrough came when Leona Breen was taken down in the area and Ferns were awarded a penalty. Admastown keeper Leanne Murphy was unlucky not to stop Hayley Nolan’s spot kick but it found its way to the net to give Ferns the lead.

Adamstown came more into the game in the second half with Chantelle Martin going close with free kicks on two occasions while Leona Breen and Liz Everedd had efforts going close for Ferns. Despite Adamstown’s best efforts they could not grab that elusive equaliser and Ferns held on to lift the MMI.ie Cup with Hayley Nolan picking up the player of the match award. The league would like to thank Moyne Rangers for the use of their pitch which was in excellent condition for this cup final

Womens Premier Division

Benfica            0          Tramore          2

Goals from Niamh Walsh and Orla Hickey saw Tramore take all three points in the Waterford derby and create a three way play off for runners up spot in the Premier Division. Both these sides and Adamstown will now battle it out for the silver medals as all teams finish on twenty four points each

Schoolgirls Round Up

An Amy Shannon goal saw Moyne Rangers overcome a spirited Tombrack United to lift the under ten division one title on Tuesday evening. There was very little between the sides but it was Amy’s early goal that saw Rangers take the spoils. Adamstown and St Cormacs went to extra time before Adamstown ran out 4-1 winners to lift the under ten division two B title. Sophie Kirwan scored for the Boolavogue girls but two goals from Karlina Jaglarz and one each from Ailing O Dowd and Ella Furlong gave Adamstown the title.

At under sixteen level, Cloughbawn wrapped up runners up spot in division one when overcoming New Ross Town 9-3 on Tuesday while Curracloe moved to within a point of the premier title when travelling to Kilmore on Friday and coming away 9-0 winners
