Wexford and District Womens and Schoolgirls League 20-05-2012

Under Twelve Premier Division Play Off
Curracloe United        1          Shelburne        3          AET
After a long season, these two sides had to go all the way to extra time before Shelburne eventually wrapped up the league title to go with the Cup they had won two weeks ago. In a game where there was little between the teams, Curracloe took the lead through Sara Siggins but an equaliser from Kate Murphy brought the game to extra time where goals from Hannah Keating and Eva Boland secured the title for a well coached Shelburne side

Under Sixteen Premier Division
Kilmore United           0          Curracloe United        3
Curracloe under sixteens completed the league and cup double for the third year in a row when travelling to Kilmore on Friday evening and getting the three points needed to wrap up the title. Goals from Lauren Fitzgerald, Lauren Sludds and Amy Banville gave the seasiders victory and the league title which was presented to them by the leagues former chairman Mick Doyle

Under Eighteen League Play Off
Ferns United   2          Shelburne        1          AET
A goal in extra time eventually gave Ferns the under eighteen league title after a long season saw both these sides finish level on points. Ferns took the lead in the first half but Lucy Sherwin scored a second half equaliser for Shelburne to bring the game to extra time. It was Ferns who got the break in the second half of extra time to win the game and take the league title which was presented to them by league committee member Martin Cahill


Wexford And District Womens League Awards
Last Friday saw the Wexford and District womens league present their annual awards to their divisional top scorers and players of the year. At a very well attended event, league chairman Daire Doyle thanked everyone on attending and congratulated all winners while commenting that now we had a National League team in the league, it gave our elite players something to aim for. The following won awards for the season Chantelle Martin (Adamstown) Stephanie Gahan (St Josephs) Julie Anne Kinsella (Courtown Hibs). Anne Carroll (New Ross Town), Debbie Carton (Cloughbawn), Liz Everedd (Ferns United) Charlotte O Keefe (Shelburne), Natasha Walsh (Wexford Celtic) and Megan Murray (Camolin Celtic).

Wexford Youths Womens AFC Awards
To tie in with the Wexford Womens League awards, the top scorer and player of the year awards were presented to the Wexford Youths Womens team. Edel Kennedy and Cherelle Khessal finished joint top scorers for the club in its innaugural season while Under Nineteen International Jessica Gleeson collected the club young player of the year award. The top award of club player of the year went to team captain Kylie Murphy, a player who had led by example from the start of the season. All players, managers, coaches and committee were presented with team photos as a commemeration of the clubs first season and all will now take a short break before pre season begins in July

International call up
Cherelle Khessal rounded off a great season by getting a call from Republic of Ireland manager Sue Ronan calling her into the squad for this weeks friendly away to Switzerland. Since joining the club, Cherelle has collected the February player of the month award as well as being nominated for the National young player of the year and now the icing on the cake with a call up to the Senior international squad

Tramore FC get UEFA silver award
This week Tramore FC, last seasons FAI club of the year, were announced as the UEFA Grassroots club silver medal winners. This is a fantastic achievement for the club and they make no secret of the fact that their womens section play a major part in the clubs success in winning awards off the field. Tramore are one of the most resepected clubs in the Wexford Womens League and all in the league would like to congratulate them on their most recent success. Tramore are the first club from Ireland to pick up a UEFA Grassroots award finishing behind a club from Moldova and head of Bronze medalists Germany
