Under Ten Cup Final
The first series of cup finals took place in All Blacks last Sunday and despite windy conditions, the standard of soccer on display was very high with the pitches in excellent condition. Curracloe United and Gorey Celtic served up a thrilling under ten cup final which had to go all the way to penalties to decide a winner with Curracloe making up for last years disappointment by lifting the cup. Celtic were crowned division two B champs last week but showed their true potential as they brought the game to the premier division leaders despite the blustery conditions. Amy Wilson was on target for Gorey with Sarah Siggins scoring for Curracloe in the one all draw and with no further goals, the game moved to extra time and penalties where the seasiders came out on top. League Chairman Mick Doyle presented the cup to the winning side with Curracloes Sarah Harding Kenny picking up player of the match.
Boland Carpets Cup Final
Shelbourne were in search of the league and cup double when taking the field against Wexford Celtic in this final but were not ready for the spirit and determination of the town side who raced into a four nil lead while the Ballywilliam game were still finding their feet. Goals from Michelle Murphy, two, Maria McDonald and Lisa Marie Doyle had Celtic in control and looked to be cruising to a comfortable win before Shelbourne eventually found their scoring boots and Marcelle Cullen scored twice with twenty minutes to go. However Wexford Celtic called on their experience and closed off any further chances to run out well deserved four two winners. Maria McDonald collected the player of the match award to begin a night of hectic celebrations for the Wexford town side.
Ger Dunne Under Sixteen Cup
Holders Curracloe United retained their Ger Dunne Cup when eventually killing off a spirited and determined effort from recently crowned division one champions North End United. With the wind playing havoc, North End were unlucky not to go ahead in the first half but the experienced Curracloe side held them at bay and got the ideal start in the second half when Rianna Jarrett shot straight to the roof of the net from the kick off. The floodgates still did not open but Curracloe just had too much strike force up front and two goals from Fiona Bennett and one from Cara McDonald wrapped up a four nil win. Curracloes Megan Smith collected a well deserved player of the match award as her side showed themselves to be a very strong force at this age level. The league would like to thank All Blacks for the use of their facilities which were in excellent condition on the day as well as referees Noel O Connor, John Carton and Martin Armstrong
Schoolgirls League
Kilmore United wrapped up the under twelve division two B title during the week with a three nil win away to Gorey Celtic which gave them the points needed to wrap up the title. They followed this up with a six one win at home to Seaview United on Saturday completing their season with a very impressive thirteen wins and one draw from their fourteen games. Seaview United wrapped up the under fourteen division two A title as all their closest challengers were too far behind to make an impact
Womens League
Seaview United moved top of the womens division one after overcoming St Cormacs four nil in Mersheen on Sunday and also wrapped up promotion to the premier division in then process. Goals from Sadie Murphy, Sonja Murphy, Catherine Doyle and Maebh Kehoe gave Seaview the points and set up a final match with St Cormacs to decide the division winners. Enniscorthy Town rounded off their season with a seven one home win against relegated Glen Celtic. Courtown Hibs pipped New Ross Town for the runners up spot in division two B when travelling to Campile and winning eight nil while fellow promotion challengers Ross Town were losing four one at home to Rosslare Rangers. Irene Grant with four goals, Gillian Synnott with a hat trick and a single goal from Lauren Ramsey gave Hibs the points which gives them their first ever top two finish in the league
Gaynor Cup Under Fourteen Squad
The following list of players have been selected on the Wexford League Under Fourteen Gaynor Cup panel to travel to Galway on June bank holiday weekend. This is the first time the competition has been run in this format as an Inter league competition and Wexford will be competing with seventeen other leagues for the honour of all Ireland champions. Manager Barry Dempsey is delighted to have a very strong squad at his disposal with some very good players being unlucky not to make it. Details of draws, kick off times, etc will become available during the week and will be published next week
