Schoolgirls League
Bree United completed the league and cup double on Saturday morning when overcoming Curracloe United two nil in the play off for the premier division title. In a very closely contested match, Bree went ahead miway through the second half when Kasey Doyle scored and wrapped up the title with a Sophie McCabe injury time goal. In under twelve division one, Bunclody and Killenagh both recorded weekend wins to sit joint top of the table, however Bunclody have the slight advanatage as they have one game remaining and a draw will be suffice to give them the title. St Josephs secured runners up spot in the under fourteen premier division when overcoming Bree United two nil in their final match while North End United made a big push towards the under fourteen division one title with back to back wins over Campile United. Tombrack edged clear at the top of division two B after a three all draw with Bunclody during the week but Moyne are tucked in just behind them with two games in hand. A late goal by Niamh Moore gave Kilmore and one nil win over Seaview in the under sixteen division one runners up play off and promoted her side to the premier division
Womens League
Benfica travelled to North End on Sunday and collected the three points they required to join Curracloe United at the top of the premier division and send them both into a play off for the title. A hat trick from Brianne O Connor and a goal each from Lisa Dower and Linda Douglas gave the Waterford girls a comfortable five nil victory
Etchingham Cup Final
Shilelagh United completed their divisional league and cup double when they overcame a very determined Castledockrell United in the Etchingham Cup final in Bunclody on Sunday. In a very dogged battle both sides entertained the large crowd despite very windy conditions and the level of football on display was a credit to both sides. The Wicklow side were always the stronger looking team but Castledockrell never allowed themselves to be overrun and made life extremely difficult for the league champions. Player of the match Leanne Tumelty was the main difference between the teams as her energy in midfield proved difficult for the opposition to handle. Bernie Coleman was on target for “Dockrell” but goals from Fiona Byrne and Elaine Murphy gave Shilelagh a two one victory and a dream debut season in the Wexford league. League chairman Mick Doyle presented the cup to the winning captain to spark off a night of celebration as the team headed the short distance home back to Shilelagh
Michelle Coleman Cup Final
Tramore lifted the Michelle Coleman Cup for the first time when they overcame St Cormacs four one in a game where the scoreline did no justice to the Boolavogue girls. The Waterford side had just missed out on promotion when finishing third in division one so this cup win was some consolation but it was hard to believe that the game was deadlocked at one one with ten minutes to go. Vanessa Ogbonna was on target for Tramore and Bernie Carton scored for St Cormacs as both sides battled with each other and a very strong wind on an excellent pitch in Bunclody. The game seemed to be heading towards extra time before Tramore got the break and Vanessa scored her second goal to put her side ahead and while St Cormacs were still reeling, Niamh Walsh made it three one. Player of the match Vanessa Ogbonna completed her hat trick near the end to make it four one and leaving the opposition wondering where it had all gone wrong. This was St Cormacs fourth appearance in a row in the final, a remarkable achievement in its own right, but next season they will be heading for the premier division and are disappointed not to have lifted this cup but all credit must go to Tramore who worked hard throughout the game. Many thanks to Bunclody for theuse of their excellent facilities on the day and to referees Michael Franklin, James Doyle and Shem Doyle for officiating at both cup finals
