Bunclody AFC 2 Courtown
Hibs 0
Bunclody completed
the divisional league and cup double when they overcame closest contenders
Courtown Hibs in a thrilling cup final. There has been little to divide these
two very good footballing sides all season and this game was no different as
both started cautiously. It was Bunclody who got the breakthrough on twenty
five minutes when Kate Hendrick was sharpest in a crowded penalty area and
lobbed the Hibs keeper with a deft touch. Hibs were almost back on level terms
moments later when they saw a goal bound shot rocket back off the crossbar.
Bunclody secured the cup in the sixty second minute when Britney Conroy saw her
shot blocked but the ball rebounded to Nicole Fortune who headed into the net.
Both sides can be happy with their seasons as both lost players during the
Summer although Courtown will be disappointed not to have picked up some
silverware. Chloe Moynihan of Bunclody picked up a well deserved player of the
match award
Gaynor Cup Final
St Cormacs 0 Ajax
Athletic 2
A strong second
half performance from Ajax Athletic saw the Enniscorthy club pick up their
first piece of silverware when overcoming a St Cormacs side who were chasing
their third Gaynor Cup in a row. St Cormacs enjoyed the better of the first
half but found Ajax difficult to breakdown and the game reached half time with
the teams still deadlocked at 0-0. Ajax second half performance was much better
and they took the lead after fifty seven minutes when Siobhan Grant Moorehead
shot to the net. St Cormacs did what they could to get back on level terms but
Ajax had their tails up at this stage and when Sophie Savage scored with
fifteen minutes to go, there was no coming back for St Cormacs and Ajax went on
to secure their first ever trophy in the Women’s league. Siobhan Grant
Moorehead picked up a well deserved player of the match award
